Franklin D. Roosevelt
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in 1882 at Hyde Park, New York.  He attended Harvard and Columbia, and in 1905, he married his cousin, Eleanor Roosevelt. 
 
He was the democratic nominee for vice president in 1920 and was stricken with polio a year later.  He swam to try to regain use of his legs, and in 1928 he became governor of New York. 
 
He was elected president in 1932 and put his "New Deal" into effect, urging Congress to establish many different programs such as the Tennessee Valley Authority and social security.   
 
He was elected for three other terms, and he died during his fourth term.  On April 12, 1945, he died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
